Match Report

So after no game for 3 weeks and 7 players unavailable we leave Alton Town feeling frustrated not to come away with all 3 points.

Although we had lots missing we still had a very good side out the return of Jack Williams who as always had a really good game and gives that calming influence at the back and 2 players from the first team getting 90 minutes in with us RB the Jedi master Yoda and LB Scouser Lee Mccombie who both played very well.

We started understandably a little rusty and it took 15 minutes for us to get going and start moving the ball about like we normally do. There wasn’t much in the first half at all both teams working hard and trying to play the right way but also cancelling each other out.

Alton didn’t cause us any problems going forward but were very well organised defensively and we were finding it hard to break them down. We did though have 2 half chances to take the lead a good ball in from the left from Luis Tyler but no one doing enough to get on the end of it, another a long range effort from captain Aaron Grimshaw which the keeper done well to put over for a corner. Half time the score was 0-0.

2nd half we started the better side playing the better football but again Alton were very well drilled kept their shape well and we were finding hard to create anything in the final 3rd. With 20 minutes to go Alton then started to be a bit more adventurous and were looking more dangerous coming forward but we were defending well as a team and gaps were starting to open up at the other end for us.

On 80 minutes we got the break through that we probably just deserved for our disciplined patient display, some good work down the right and a lovely cross in to the box from our little ginger wizard Harvey Cooper who was MOTM for me found Our goal scoring machine Bradley Silvester unmarked to head home.

We thought then there was only going to be one winner but in football a 1 goal lead is very dangerous and on 85 minutes we should of been awarded a free kick that wasn’t giving but then we gave away a silly foul in frustration just inside our half. Once again we just can’t seem to defend them set pieces and we concede the equaliser.

It’s something we are going to have to really address and try to put right in training because it’s happened far too many times this season.

The game finished 1-1 and we can’t fault the players for their effort or the way they played today because we actually played well and they all put a real shift in but just didn’t get what we probably deserved. Overall frustrated not to get 3 points but plenty of positives to take away as well.
